Grampian Housing Association and Torry Development Trust

Victoria Road School Regeneration Project

Grampian Housing Association and Torry Development Trust begin the task of redeveloping the former Victoria Road School

Final agreement on the purchase of the site of the former Victoria Road School is expected later this month. It follows the agreement of Aberdeen City Council last year to offer the vacant buildings on Victoria Road and Abbey Lane to Grampian Housing Association as the preferred bidder.

Following the completion of the sale, Grampian Housing Association, with its development partner, the Torry Development Trust will begin public consultations on the restoration and regeneration of the sites of the former Victoria Road Primary School for affordable housing and community spaces.

Neil Clapperton, Chief Executive of Grampian Housing Association said:

"Grampian is very excited to be part of this project and to be leading on this investment in the community. We plan to save these fine granite buildings and preserve what is an important local landmark, full of memories and of local history. In an area where there is high demand for homes, we will be building affordable housing to meet local needs."

David Fryer, Lead Trustee with the Torry Development Trust (TDT) said:

"The TDT is pleased to be working with the largest housing association in the North-East which brings over forty years’ worth of development experience and ability to our project. Together, we aim to restore the two original school buildings and create a new building to meet local needs in the 21st Century and beyond, and we will ensure that the community value of these two fine granite buildings will be not only preserved but enhanced by the legacy work we will create for at least the next 150 years.”

A presentation is due to be given to the next meeting of the Torry Community Council on Thursday 21st March at 7pm at Tullos Primary School on the development of the community regeneration project that involves the restoration of the two fine granite buildings of the former Victoria Road primary school
