Aims of the redevelopment project

We want the Victoria Road School development to meet the needs of the local community.  We want to restore the beautiful granite buildings and bring them back into use, create housing, community space and an accessible outdoor space for everyone.

Where is the site

The old school buildings are located between Victoria Road and Abbey Road in Torry on the site of the old Victoria Road Primary School.

History of the Victoria Road School site

In 2008 the primary school on Victoria Road in Torry closed leaving the historic buildings, opened in 1878 unused while the site was put up for sale by the Aberdeen City Council. In 2016 an application to demolish the school buildings was rejected by Council.  Since then the Torry Development Trust has been working on a project to develop the site which will keep the existing buildings and meet the needs of the Torry community.

In September 2018 the Grampian Housing Association (who were bidding for the site on behalf of the partnership with the Torry Development Trust) won preferred bidder status from the Council in another step towards acquiring the site and developing it for the community.

The Trust are now working with Grampian Housing Association to develop the plans for Victoria Road School site.
